Kazan today

Kazan is the capital of the Tatarstan republic and one of the biggest economical, scientific and cultural centers of Russia. The city is situated on the left bank of the Volga River and both banks of the Kazanka River. It occupies the territory of 425,3 square kilometers and has the population of 1,2 million people, represented by more than 101 nationalities. Kazan celebrated its millenary on the 30 of August 2005.

Kazan with the marvelous Kremlin, mosques, churches and rich museums, is a unique place of interest, included among the Volga River tourist routs and the World Heritage List. It has been awarded several diplomas and a medal of UNESCO. Kazan is also a city of theatres, museums, music, international festivals, rich libraries, newest technologies, business partnership and science.  

Economics

Kazan is an attractive region for foreign investors. Nowadays there are more than hundred foreign invested enterprises and also 150 representatives of foreign firms. Big internetional conferences among them EBRD (European Bank of Reconstruction and Development) and COWHC (Congress of Organizations of World Herritage Cities)were hold severals times in Kazan. There are two world-known giants of aircraft industry in the city: the GUP “Kazan Aircraft Production Association” and the “Kazan Helicopter Plant” Joint Stock Company (KVZ).

Culture

Kazan is one of the most important educational and cultural centers of Russia. There are at about 40 Institutions of Higher Education here. Among them Kazan State University, was founded in 1804. There are a lot of museums, libraries, conserts halls, theatres. Besides this, there is “Hermitage-Kazan” centre- the only one filial agency of the well-known museum. There are a lot of cinemas, night clubs, restaurants, cultural-entertaining centres of European level, parks of culture and leisure, pictures galleries, 2 aqua-parks, State Circus, Kazan zoo-botanic garden.

Education

Kazan is one of the biggest scientific and educational centers of Russia and the second biggest city by the number of students. There are 625 Institutions here. One of the most important peculiarities of education is the possibility to study in one’s native language.

Sport

One of the most important trends in the city life is sport development. Hockey club “Ak Bars”, Football club “Rubin”, Basketball club “Unics”, volleyball club “Dinamo TTG” and others worthily present Kazan in chempionships of Russia, Europe and world. During last years a lot of great sport establishments had been built. For example Basket – Hall, Ice Sport Palace “TatNeft Arena”, hippodrome, Grass Hockey stadium. Soon the building of  Aqutics Palace will be finished. Sport competitions of world level are often hold in Kazan.Kazan is in list of challengers for holding of the seventeen world student’s competitions.
